Preachers were everywhere. There were religious teachers and preachers on every corner in Jerusalem. No village was without at least one interpreter of the law, although the remote villages were often bypassed by major teachers. Contemporary preachers appear to prefer large crowds and comfortable, easily accessible locations; so it was in the first century. Some of those appealed to the crowds with messianic pretensions.
